چکیده
The ancient philosophers aimed to turn us away from thinking about particularizing affection justifiable human relations. aim of their protreptic discourses was get readers, who were citizens, sons, and fathers, think lives by putting these relations into question. I show how this conversion works explore its political consequences reading the accounts friendship in Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, then comparing those with views on causes justifications Rousseau, Christians post-Christian Kantians, Hebrew Bible Rabbinic commentators.
